DETENTION OF FOREIGNERS AFTER RELEASE A NORMAL PROCEDURE - IMMIGRATION DG
KOTA BAHARU (Malaysia), April 7 (Bernama) -- The detention of the three foreign ISA (Internal Security Act) detainees by the Immigration Department, despite their release on Sunday, was a normal procedure and not for political reasons said Immigration Department Director-General Mahmood Adam.
Mahmood said the three foreign nationals - Sundaraj Vijay (India), San
Khaing and Amir Hussain (Myanmar) - were now being held at the Langkap
immigration detention depot in northern state of Perak, while waiting for their
documentations to be processed.
"Sundaraj has valid documents and will be allowed to return home on April 9.
Investigations related to the validity of documents for the two Myanmar
nationals has also shown that they are valid.
"We have contacted the Myanmar Embassy and are waiting for an available
flight to send them home," he told reporters here Monday.
He added that according to procedures, any foreign national released by
police or from the prison, would be handed over to the Immigration Department to
carry out processing of documentations as well conduct a background check.
The three foreigners were among 13 ISA detainees released after Prime
Minister Najib Abdul Razak made the announcement on Friday.
