Legal protection of human rights defenders discussed

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the National Human Rights Commission of Mongolia are organizing a consultative meeting themed ‘Every person can be human rights defender-Advancing legal protection’ on September 4-5 in partnership with the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights. Delegates from public and civil society organizations, international organizations, professional associations and researchers, human rights activists and at the invitation of Foreign Minister, the UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of Human Rights Defenders Michel Forst are attending the consultative meeting. The participants of the consultative meeting are exchanging opinions on necessity and significance of legal recognition of human rights defenders and international practice and rules in addition to having discussion on draft law on Human Rights Defenders. In frames of the meeting, a movie discussion for reporters is to be held today, on September 4 in Open Society Forum while the UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of Human Rights Defenders Michel Forst will give a lecture themed ‘Roles of human rights organizations for protecting human rights defenders’ on September 6 at the National University of Mongolia.
