POLICE PEACE MISSION TO TIMOR LESTE TUESDAY

KUALA LUMPUR, April 7 (Bernama) -- The Royal Malaysia Police peacekeeping mission comprising 136 personnel will leave for Timor Leste Tuesday and on April 9 to join the United Nations (UN) peacekeeping mission.

Inspector-General of Police Musa Hassan said the group would take over duty
from the Formed Police Unit (FPU) from the Northern Brigade who would complete
their six-month tour of duty in Timor Leste Tuesday.

"The peacekeeping mission this time comprises officers and personnel from
the Formed Police Unit from the Central Brigade, General Operations Force (GOF)
and the United Nations Police (UNPOL) and will be sent in two stages.

"This group will also be joined by a doctor and three paramedics from the
Malaysian Armed Forces. Seventy personnel together with 43 members of UNPOL will
depart tomorrow while the rest will fly on Thursday," he said in his speech to
celebrate the change of FPU duty, here Monday.

His speech was read by Federal Police Director of Management Abd Razak
Bokhari.

Musa said the team would be led by DSP Mohd Abduh Ismail from the GOF
Central Brigade, Cheras with the first group departing from the KL International
Airport (KLIA) at 4.30 am Tuesday.
