Park Tae-hwan to return to U.S. for training ahead of World Championship
SEOUL, April 7 (Yonhap) -- Beijing Olympic swimming gold medalist Park Tae-hwan will begin a special training session in the United States next week ahead of the World Championship in July, his agent said Tuesday.
"Park will head to the U.S. on April 16 and start his six-week training at the
University of Southern California. He will return in late May," his agency SK
Telecom Sports Team said.
Park, who seized 400m men's freestyle gold and 200m silver in Beijing last year,
trained at the same venue in January. He will again be coached by Dave Salo,
according to his agent.
The 19-year-old swimmer, aiming to clinch victory in the 400m men's freestyle
event at this year's World Championship tournament in Rome, will focus on
developing endurance to compete better in longer events as well as on making a
faster turn to break his own record.
Park has said wants to improve in the 1,500m event, which he failed to advance to
the finals of in both Beijing and last year's championship.
The teenage star will participate in U.S. local swimming competitions as a
non-registered player ahead of the international competition, the agent added.
