FOUR NAMED SUSPECTS IN ABEPURA ATTACK

Jayapura, April 9 (ANTARA) - Police have named four people as suspects in early Thursday's attack on the Abepura police precinct in the eastern Indonesian province of Papua.

A total of 13 people had been interrogated in connection with the attack, Chief of the Papua Provincial Police Insp. Gen. Bagus Eko Danto said late Thursday.

But he stopped short of revealing the identities of the suspects for fear that this could disrupt the investigation process.

One person believed to be a member of armed separatist group which attacked the police precinct was killed in the incident.

The attack came ahead of legislative polls on Thursday.

Bagus said he had so far not received any report from police resorts in the province about security disturbance during the polls.

"Until now the conditions are still safe. We don't want a trivial incident to happen so that we have to ask for additional security personnel from the National Police Headquarters," he said.

He said security personnel from the mobile brigade (Brimob) unit of the National Police Headquarters had arrived in Jayapura to reinforce the existing personnel following the attack on the Abepura police precinct.***1***
