M'SIAN PM DEPARTS FOR HOME FROM PATTAYA

PATTAYA, April 11 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak
left for home Saturday after cutting short his visit following the cancellation of the 14th Asean Summit and related summits.

The prime minister's entourage, which includes his wife Rosmah
Mansor, left for the Utapao Airport, about 30 minutes from the Royal Cliff Grand
& Spa Hotel, at 3.30pm.

His motorcade left under tight security to the airport.

The government jet that carried them took off at 5pm.

Also on board were newly-appointed Foreign Minister Anifah Aman and
International Trade and Industry Minister Mustapa Mohamed.

Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva was at the airport to bid farewell.
Also present were Foreign Ministry Secretary-General Rastam Mohd Isa and
Malaysia's Ambassador to Thailand,Husni Zai Yaakob.

The Summits were cancelled after the Red Shirts supporters of ousted Prime
Minister Thaksin Shinawatra stormed the meeting venue at the Pattaya Exhibition
and Convention Hall before staging a 30-minute stand-off at the Royal Cliff
Grand Hotel & Spa Hotel where most of the Asean leaders, including Najib, were
staying.

Leaders from South Korea, Singapore and Vietnam left ahead of Najib from
the same airport.

The protesters had been demonstrating in Bangkok since March 26 and came
here to pile more pressure on Abhisit to resign.
