OIC Secretary General Chairs Meeting on 'Human Rights'

Jeddah, April 12, SPA -- The Secretary General of Organization of
Islamic Conference (OIC) Prof. Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu chaired here
today a meeting of the Group of Governmental Experts concerned with
the establishment of an Independent Standing Committee on 'Human
Rights'.

The meeting discussed a document prepared for the Committee by the
General Secretariat of the Organization after its contacts with
relevant international bodies in the field of human rights.

Addressing the meeting, Prof. Ihsanoglu stressed that human rights
constitute integral parts of the Islamic religion and are considered
as major elements of the Islamic culture and heritage.
