QUAKE ROCKS CENTRAL SULAWESI
Palu, C Sulawesi, April 13 (ANTARA) - The Boul town in the northern tip of Central Sulawesi was rocked by a strong tectonic earthquake after midday on Sunday causing locals to flee their homes.
According to the Geophysical, Climatological and Meteorological office (BMG) in its website, the 5.2 Richter scale quake occurred at 12.19 hours western Indonesia time (WIB) on Sunday.
The epicenter of the quake is located at a depth of 29 km below the sea level, 182 kms northeast Tolitoli (Central Sulawesi), 184 km northwest of Gorontalo (north Sulawesi), and 337 km north west of Bitung in North Sulawesi.
The Sunday earthquake has not potential to trigger a tsunami, according to the BMG office.
Previously at 4.45 WIB on Sunday, an earthquake measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale also took place at a depth of 102 km with an epicenter located 64 northeast of Tahuna, North Sulawesi.
On Friday, last week, an earthquake measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale shook the Melonguane waters in North Sulawesi province.
The epicenter of the quake which struck at 05.10 a.m. was located 342 km northeast of the provincial capital Manado at a depth of 10 km, the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) said in its official website.
