M'SIAN PM EXTENDS VAISAKHI GREETINGS TO SIKH COMMUNITY

KUALA LUMPUR, April 13 (Bernama) -- Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak Monday extended greetings to the Sikh community in conjunction with the Vaisakhi celebration.

"In the day commemorating the founding of this religion, I would like to
wish the Sikh community in Malaysia a wonderful and prosperous Vaisakhi and hope
that the well-being of Malaysia and its people are in your prayers. Have a
joyous Vaisakhi!" he said in his blog, www.1malaysia.com.my.

He said the celebration reminded him of the tremendous value of the
country's diversity.

The Sikh community worldwide celebrates the holy festival of Vaisakhi (or
Bhaisakhi) with prayers, singing and dancing, and it was no different in
Malaysia, he said.

Vaisakhi falls on the first day of the Vaisakh month in the Nanakshahi
calendar, coinciding with April 13 or 14 in the Gregorian calendar. It is the
most important festival in the Sikh calendar, and signifies the birth of the
Khalsa.
