BNA Director General participates in OIC-UNA meeting

Jeddah, Dec. 12 (BNA): Director General of Bahrain News Agency (BNA) Abdullah Khalil Buhajji took part in the first extraordinary session of the General Assembly of the Union of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation News Agencies (OIC-UNA) which convened today at the organisation’s Secretariat General headquarters in Jeddah, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The meeting was chaired by Saudi Information Minister and Chairman of the union’s Executive Board Turki bin Abdullah Al-Shabanah. It was attended by Representative of OIC Secretary General Dr. Abdullah Al Tayer, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) President and Chairman of the union’s General Assembly Abdullah bin Fahad Al-Hussain, OIC-UNA Director General Isa Khaireh Robleh and members of the General Assembly. The BNA Director General stressed the importance of such meetings in boosting regional cooperation between the news agencies and coordinating efforts to facilitate news exchange and avail of expertise to keep abreast of the latest developments in the official news agencies’ work. He underlined the role of such meetings in casting light on key issues, including mainly coping with digital development, benefiting from new media platforms and producing a media content compatible with fast-paced news reality and challenges facing mainly the official news agencies. The meeting kick-started with a speech by Turki Al-Shabanah in which he pointed out the need to cope with development in the media industry, stressing the importance of developing an administrative model and an effective communication mechanism for the union to guarantee disclosing news in an attractive and professional way.
