HOLIDAY TURNS INTO TRAGEDY FOR COUPLE
PENANG (Malaysia), April 14 (Bernama) -- A couple's holiday outing on cruise ship Star Virgo, turned into a tragedy when both fell off the ship about 15 nautical miles from Pulau Kendi off this northern island state Monday.
The couple from India, Shetty Noojady Nithyanda, 49 and his wife Shetty
Kasturi Nithyanda, 47, lost their balance and footing before falling into the
sea.
During the incident, the ship's crew members managed to save Shetty Kasturi
but the husband was believed to have drowned.
Northern Region Marine Police Chief ACP Zainul Abidin Hasan who confirmed
the incident said search and rescue operations had started immediately after
receiving information of the incident.
"We received a distress call at 10.20am and we immediately dispatched a team
of eight officers," he said.
He added that the women who was saved by the ship's crew members was later
sent to the Gleneagles Hospital here for treatment.
