National committee on commitment to Security Council resolutions holds meeting

Manama, Jan. 9 (BNA): The National Committee for follow-up on Bahrain's commitment to all Security Council resolutions held its fifth meeting today at the Ministry’s General Court, chaired by Undersecretary for International Affairs, Dr. Shaikh Abdullah bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, and attended by members of the Committee comprising representatives of relevant ministries and government bodies. Dr. Shaikh Abdullah thanked the members of the Committee for their efforts in finalizing the necessary tools and mechanisms, and executive programs, to implement the decisions issued by the Security Council, in line with international standards, and the recommendations of the Financial Action Group (FATF). The meeting reviewed the efforts exerted by the Committee in implementing its work plan, examined accomplishments, discussed the next phase and maintaining sustainable development of the governance of communication and application mechanisms, within the framework of the existing strategic partnership between Bahrain and the United Nations. The Undersecretary for International Affairs pointed out that the Committee is invariably keen to ensure that its outputs keeps up with Bahrain’s position in respect of international legitimacy decisions, stressing the importance of ensuring commitment and accurate application by the responsible and authorized bodies to implement the requirements of the Security Council, and taking into account the time component in applying international decisions. Dr. Shaikh Abdullah said Bahrain relies on the central role played by the UN Security Council in protecting international peace and security, especially as the region faces various security challenges and threats, as a result of interference in the affairs of other countries and sponsoring terrorism. He emphasized that Bahrain, led by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, believes in the importance of adhering to international laws and agreements to protect comprehensive security, achieve sustainable development and support human values. The National Committee was formed to follow Bahrain’s commitment to all decisions issued by the UN Security Council, in accordance with the Minister of Foreign Affairs Decision No. 26 of 2018 and the Cabinet’s approval on October 8, 2018 to add new tasks to the National Committee, including all topics related to combating terrorism and to coordinate with concerned authorities in Bahrain.
