HRH Princess Sabeeka receives UN Under-Secretary General

Manama, Feb. 17 (BNA): Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, Wife of His Majesty the King and President of the Supreme Council for Women (SCW), received today the UN Under-Secretary General and Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for West Asia (ESCWA) Dr. Rola Dashti. She hailed the role of ESCWA in supporting national and regional women empowerment programmes and highlighting those experiences internationally. HRH Princess Sabeeka stressed keenness of SCW on boosting cooperation with ESCWA in demonstrating the national efforts aimed at empowering women and ensuring their continuous participation in development. She pointed out ESCWA’s embracement of the council’s experience in compiling the national report to benchmark gender balance and the generalisation of the experience among the member states. HRH Princess Sabeeka voiced confidence in the ability of Dr. Rola Dashti to enhance the role of ESCWA in stimulating economic and social development in the countries of the region and boosting cooperation among them. Dr. Rola lauded the kingdom’s sustainable growth, pointing out the role of SCW in empowering Bahraini women.
