HRH Premier’s launch of International Day of Conscience praised by UNESCO top official

Paris, Feb. 18 (BNA): Shaikh Hussam bin Isa Al Khalifa has held a meeting with the Assistant Director-General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO), Nicolas Kassianides. Held at the UNESCO headquarters here, the meeting was attended by several representatives of the Court of HRH the Prime Minister and those of the Bahraini Embassy in France, as well as Bahrain’s Permanent Representative to UNESCO and UNESCO officials. Shaikh Hussam lauded UNESCO’s role and great contributions to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs 2030), which were approved by the UN General Assembly. Shaikh Hussam also hailed UNESCO’s active and effective role in consolidating international cooperation in the fields of education, culture and sciences, commending its efforts in building Knowledge societies that are based on cultural diversity, as well as the values of justice and security. Shaikh Hussam highlighted the resolution issued by the UN General Assembly in July 2019 on adopting the initiative of His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa to declare April 5 of each year as an “International Day of Conscience” to mobilise the international community's regular efforts to promote peace, tolerance, integration, and understanding in order to build a sustainable world, based on peace, and solidarity and harmony. He stressed the importance of UNESCO’s role in implementing the UNGA’s resolution, through its effective contributions and related activities aimed at fostering the cultures of peace, non-violence and intercultural dialogue in order to help achieve peace and sustainable development. UNESCO’s Assistant Director-General appreciated the efforts and initiatives led by the Kingdom of Bahrain to enhance international cooperation and mobilise support for efforts to strengthen the pillars of peace and stability in the world. Nicolas Kassianides stressed the importance of HRH Premier’s initiative to launch the “International Day of Conscience”, noting that it is a significant and important initiative whose goals converge with UNESCO's endeavours to promote human values and establish an approach of understanding among peoples.
