MINISTRY TO ENSURE IMPLEMENTATION OF POLICE FIVE-YEAR PLAN
BENTONG (Malaysia), April 16 (Bernama) -- The Home Ministry will ensure the
smooth implementation of the Royal Malaysian Police's five-year plan, especially
in terms of recruitment, Minister Hishammuddin Hussein said.
He said that the plan to increase the number of personnel by 60,000,
however, would not be met if effort was not supported by sufficient
infrastructure.
"This is important to ensure that their welfare is taken care of so that
they can concentrate on discharging their duties," he told reporters after
attending the ground-breaking ceremony for the Public Order Training Centre by
the Ruler of east coast state of Pahang, Sultan Ahmad Shah, in Pelangai near
here Thursday.
Hishammuddin also said that it was important to continue with the
construction of police infrastructure, especially training centres, despite the
global economic slowdown.
He said the government would not compromise on the issue of the country's
security, peace and order.
"We will continue to monitor the plan's implementation as the number of
personnel at the moment is insufficient to meet current needs," he said.
He hoped that the Public Order Training Centre would be able to create
personnel of high calibre, professionalism and skills.
The RM138.4 million centre, which has the capacity to train 500 trainees at
a time, would integrate all public order elements such as the General Operations
Force, Special Operations Force and traffic.
He said the centre would not affect the existing training programmes carried
out by the Police Training Centre. (US$1=RM3.61)
