Public Security Chief hails royal pardon

Manama, Mar. 13 (BNA): Chief of Public Security, Lieutenant-General Tariq Al Hassan, has extended deepest thanks and gratitude to His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, marking the issuance of a royal decree on pardoning inmates for humanitarian reasons.
In an interview with the Bahrain Television over the phone, Al-Hassan said that under the royal decree, and the alternative penalty law, 1486 convicts will leave the Reformation and Rehabilitation Centre as part of a royal and humanitarian gesture, representing a source of national pride.
He added that the kind royal gesture aims to give an opportunity for inmates to rectify their conduct and reintegrate into society, in the best interests of the nation.
He pointed out that the royal gesture extends to the law on alternative penalty and measures that reflects HM the King’s vision and directives to expand the application of the law to reconcile family members, noting that the Interior Ministry has studied the situations of 585 inmates who meet the requirements of alternative punishment and submitted a report on them.
