Bahrain welcomes Arab Coalition’s ceasefire announcement in Yemen

Manama, Apr. 9 (BNA): Bahrain’s Ministry of Foreign has welcomed the announcement of unilateral comprehensive ceasefire by the Joint Forces Command of the Coalition to Restore Legitimacy in the Republic of Yemen for a period of two weeks, starting today, subject to extension, in response to UN invitation. In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs commended this “brave decision as expressing a noble humanitarian stance that considers the urgent international circumstances imposed by the spread of the Coronavirus in the countries of the region and the world at large.” “It also hails it as reflective of the concern for the life and safety of Yemeni people and their highest interests, and indicative of a sincere desire to spare the brotherly Yemeni people the consequences of this international pandemic,” the statement added. “The Ministry also notes the generous support announced by the government of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, to help the brotherly Yemeni people overcome the economic circumstances, meet their living needs and alleviate their sufferings. “The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expresses hope that the Houthi group will respond to this wise humanitarian initiative that would open the way to a comprehensive and sustainable ceasefire in all Yemeni territories and thus sparing the blood of Yemeni people and paving the way for the resumption of the political negotiations through the efforts of UN Secretary-General’s Envoy Martin Griffiths to reach a comprehensive and lasting political solution,” the statement also said.
