DON'T BE TOO ELATED WITH SIGNS OF ECONOMIC RECOVERY

PENANG (Malaysia), April 20 (Bernama) -- Do not be too happy with the global
economy that has shown positive signs of recovery, said Minister in the Prime
Minister's Department Nor Mohamed Yakcop.

He urged Malaysians not to be too comfortable with the situation for the
next two to three months as it may just be temporary.

Speaking to reporters after attending a meet-the-people programme at Dewan
Umno Pekan Darat here today, he said market and commodities prices had shown
positive signs but it did not mean they would not fall.

"I do not see the situation becoming normal as banks in the United States
still cannot give loans to people as before," he said.

Nor Mohamed was of the opinion that the economic slowdown situation would
recover as per normal in two years.

He said the focus now was towards the labour force's skills to attract
foreign investors to the country.

"Work force skills are very important to attract foreign investors besides
helping the economic era towards the Knowledge or K-Economy," he said.

As such he urged local companies to move towards new technologies to be in
line with the technological era.
