President Choummaly Sayasone receives UN Secretary General
(KPL) Lao PDR President Choummaly Sayasone, on April 11, received Mr. Ban Ki-moon, United Nations Secretary General, who is here on an official visit to Lao PDR from 10-11 April.
At the meeting, President Choummaly Sayasone praised and highly valued the visit to Laos of UN Secretary General and his entourage as a significant milestone and history event for the relations and co-operation between Laos and UN. It was also part of contribution to strengthen the relations between Laos and UN , especially in the field of social-economic development. The UN has played an important role to protect peace and stability of the world as well as to promote the social-economic development of its member countries, particularly the developing countries.
President Choummaly also expressed thanks and gratitude to UN Secretary General for his assistance and support to Laos, which was a big contribution to the social-economic development and to reduce the poverty for Lao people.
Mr. Ban Ki-moon expressed pleasure and satisfaction with a warm hospitality given to him by President Choummaly Sayasone and praised the achievements on the social-economic development gained by Lao people, especially the implementation of the MDGs.
He also expressed congratulations to Laos for its international role, particularly in UN stage, which contributed to raise the higher role of Laos to the international stages.
