Laos welcomes visit of UN Secretary General Ban
(KPL) Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Thongloun Sisoulit and his delegation welcomed UN. Secretary General Ban Ki-smoon and his delegation when they were on a working visit to Laos from 10 to 11 April.
Dr. Thongloun said he believed that the visit of Mr. Ban and his delegation was made in response to the invitation of the President of Laos.
During the meeting, Dr. Thongloun informed Mr. Ban on the socio-economic development in Laos and the effect of the international financial crisis on the country.
Dr. Thongloun thanked Mr Ban and UNDP for their assistance and cooperation to Laos in areas such as socio-economic development, poverty reduction, implementation of Millenium Development Goal of UN, mine clearance, human resource development and other areas.
Mr. Ban thanked Dr. Thongloun and Lao government for their welcome and he said he was happy to visit Laos again.
He also said he is happy that Laos is rapidly developing and gave the assurance that UN would give assistance to maintain the momentum of development.
