CATHAY PACIFIC DEFERS COMPLETION OF NEW CARGO TERMINAL

KUALA LUMPUR, April 22 (Bernama) -- Cathay Pacific Airways has deferred the
completion of its new cargo terminal in Hong Kong by 24 months to 2013, its
Country Manager for Malaysia and Brunei, Katherine Lo said Wednesday.

Lo also disclosed that the airline was negotiating with manufacturers to
defer the delivery of new aircraft in dealing with the continued business
downturn following the global economic crisis.

In anticipating that 2009 would be a challenging year, Cathay Pacific has
introduced a series of proactive measures such as a special leave
scheme, capacity reduction,a cutback on expenses and trimming flight frequency.

Lo told a media briefing here today that the airline's turnover for the
first three months of this year dropped 22.4 percent compared with the same
quarter of 2008.

On the Special Leave Scheme, Lo said it was voluntary and introduced for
staff to take unpaid leave of between one to four weeks, depending on seniority
over a 12-month period from May 1.

According to Lo, the scheme is designed to preserve cash for 2009 and to
keep the airlines' operations going.

Asked about its operations in Malaysia, Lo said effective May 1, the
airline would cut down on flight frequency from Hong Kong to Kota Kinabalu and
vice versa.

The flights will now be only on Monday, Tuesday, Friday and Sunday. At
present, there are flights are throughout the week.

Meanwhile, Cathay Pacific is renovating its lounge in Kuala Lumpur and hopes
to complete the exercise by June to cater for future demand. It has also
revamped its lounge in Penang.
