IIM TO CARRY OUT STUDY ON PERCEPTION TOWARDS MEDIA
KUALA LUMPUR, April 24 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Institute of Integrity
(IIM) will carry out a comprehensive study on the society's perception towards
the integrity of the media, in July and August this year, its President Dr
Mohd Tap Salleh said.
He said the study was aimed at understanding the society's perception
towards media and journalism ethics and integrity, and to identify ethics and
integrity issues, challenges and improvement pertaining to the media and
journalism in the country.
Dr Mohd Tap hoped that the study would help policy makers determine the
direction of the media as well as their monitoring and regulatory framework.
The study was proposed by the Cabinet Committee on Integrity in Government's
Management chaired by Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak early this year.
"To ensure a comprehensive feedback and a wider reach, the IIM would
collaborate with the Statistics Department to carry out the study," Dr Mohd Tap
said after attending a roundtable on the questionnaires for respondents of the
study.
The roundtable was chaired by Berita Publishing Sdn Bhd Editor-in-Chief
A. Kadir Jasin and attended by senior representatives of mainstream media
and alternative media as well as officers of media-related government
departments and agencies as the focus group to look into the relevancy of
questionnaires for the study.
Kadir hoped that the study would be able to identify the needs of the
society in relation to the media and to help the industry understand the trend
towards the media.
Statistics Department's Research and Development Division Deputy Director
Manisah Othman said the study would cover 12,000 respondents nationwide
comprising 70 per cent members of the public, 20 per cent from the corporate
bodies and 10 per cent from civil servants.
