SCE President deputises Shaikh Faisal bin Rashid to participate in GCC meeting

Manama, Sept. 8 (BNA): Personal Representative of His Majesty the King and President of the Supreme Council for Environment (SCE) His Highness Shaikh Abdullah bin Hamad Al Khalifa has deputised his Deputy Shaikh Faisal bin Rashid Al Khalifa to participate in the 22nd meeting of the GCC ministers responsible for environmental affairs. The virtual meeting cast light on issues on its agenda which were submitted by the environment ministries undersecretaries to boost cooperation in preserving the environment amid the coronavirus pandemic. Shaikh Faisal conveyed the greetings of SCE President HH Shaikh Abdullah bin Hamad Al Khalifa and his best wishes of every success to the meeting to come up with the best results. He also conveyed congratulations of HH Shaikh Abdullah bin Hamad Al Khalifa to Dr. Nayef Falah Mubarak Al-Hajraf on the GCC leaders’ trust to lead the Secretariat General. He stressed the achievements brought about by GCC joint work which aim to meet the aspirations of the GCC nationals, wishing the GCC Secretary General every success. The SCE Deputy President praised the decisions and recommendations of the GCC Ministers for Environment Affairs, commending their efforts to promote joint environmental work and ensure a sustainable future for the GCC countries. Their Highnesses and Excellencies endorsed during the meeting a number of recommendations pertaining to global environmental challenges and sustainable development. They reviewed implementation of GCC resolutions regarding boosting joint environmental work, following up on the strategic operational plans and upgrading the Gulf Environmental Portal. They also discussed procedures to be taken in the post-coronavirus period. The meeting also endorsed recommendations related to an agreement on preserving wildlife and international cooperation to protect the environment and natural resources. Shaikh Faisal bin Rashid Al Khalifa expressed thanks and respect to the UAE Minister of Climate Change and Environment, the Chairman of the current session, for the efforts made by the UAE. He also thanked the committees’ representatives and the Secretariat General’s affiliates for their continuous cooperation to promote GCC work. He also voiced the Kingdom of Bahrain’s honor in hosting the meetings of the GCC ministers and undersecretaries responsible for environmental affairs as well as the meetings of the specialized committees in charge of implementing the GCC strategic environmental plan which are set to be held in Bahrain.
