STATE GOVT INVITES CHINA INVESTORS TO INVEST IN SDC
PENAMPANG (Malaysia), April 27 (Bernama) -- The East Malaysia state of Sabah
Government is inviting investors from China to invest in various projects in the
Sabah Development Corridor to turn the state into one of the most vibrant places
by 2025.
"I hope investors from China will share with us their expertise in
transforming resource-rich Sabah into an advanced economy in a short span of
time," said Chief Minister Musa Aman when speaking at the 35th Malaysia-China
Friendship and Cultural Unity roadshow.
He said besides tourism, there were many opportunities in manufacturing and
agriculture sectors for Chinese investors to explore.
Musa said Sabah was endowed with many resources that provided the state and
people economic spin-offs.
"That's why we are stressing on the need to add value to our resources by
venturing into downstream processing and manufacturing.
"With the advancement in technology and increasingly educated workforce,
I'm sure Sabah has a lot to gain from adding value to our resources," he said.
He said the state was devising new and better means of accelerating
sustainable economic devleopment while preserving the natural resources.
Meanwhile, Consul-General of the People's Republic of China in Kuching Xie
Fugen said relations between China and Malaysia were in excellent state for
all-round development.
He said last year alone bilateral trade between the two countries touched
US$53.5 billion.
Xie said Malaysia has become China's biggest trade partner in Asean.
"I believe the ambitious plan to develop the economic corridor and launching
aggressive promotions to woo foreign investments will attract Chinese companies
to visit Sabah and Sarawak to team up with local companies.
"Furthermore, there are nearly a thousand Chinese students studying in
Sabah and Sarawak including 400 in Universiti Malaysia Sabah," he added.
