Late Kuwaiti Emir Was A Peace-Loving, Humanitarian Leader -- Ambassador
KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 30 (Bernama) -- The passing of the Kuwait Emir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah on Tuesday is a sad occasion for all peace lovers as he had spent his life as a humanitarian leader, said the country's Ambassador to Malaysia Dr Hamad Burhamah.
Burhamah said the late leader is the "Emir of humanity and morals", besides being an exceptional leader who devoted all his life to the service of his country, the Arab World, the Islamic Ummah, and the entire world.
"He had a generous contribution in every occasion and extended a helping hand in every economic crisis or natural disasters, and he played the mediating role between the parties in political crisis," the ambassador noted in his condolence note, made available to Bernama Wednesday.
Al-Sabah passed away on Tuesday at the age of 91 after leading his country for 14 years. He ascended to power in January 29, 2006.
Burhamah said the late Emir has a proven track record of achievements – recognised by the United Nations – as a humanitarian leader, and has received many awards and decorations from various international organisations.
According to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), among Al-Sabah's accolades include the recent US Legion of Merit, Chief Commander Medal by the United States President Donald Trump.
Burhamah noted that the late Emir had long-term relations with Malaysia, and the two countries enjoy good relations both at the leadership level as well as between the peoples.
The ambassador also conveyed the embassy's deepest condolences to the Al-Sabah family, all Kuwaiti people, and all peace-loving people.
"We pray for our late Emir. May Allah bless his soul and with eternal peace," he said.
Meanwhile, the embassy has opened a condolence book for signing by diplomatic missions here.
The State of Kuwait has announced an official 40 days of mourning and an official three-day holiday starting Tuesday following the demise, KUNA reported.
Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah has been named the new Kuwaiti emir, according to KUNA.
