FRANCE'S ATELIER CREATES WORLD-CLASS HALAL PERFUME FOR MIHAS

From Tengku Noor Shamsiah Tengku Abdullah

BRUSSELS, April 27 (Bernama) -- Atelier des Parfums, a well-known French
perfume company, will exhibit a world-class halal perfume product at the Sixth
Malaysia International Halal Showcase (MIHAS) 2009 from May 6 to 10.

Its vice president Hermann J. Portner said the company has the capability
and capacity to produce halal perfume products for the global market.

"We are happy to cooperate with Malaysia and the Islamic community. We are
able to bring world-class halal perfume products to the community at an
affordable prices," he told Bernama here.

With MIHAS is fast becoming the world's premier showcase for halal products
and services, Portner said Atelier would like to take the opportunity to help
promote Malaysia as a global hub for halal fragrances and cosmetics.

In conjunction with MIHAS 2009, Halal Industry Development Corporation is
organising the World Halal Research 2009 conference on May 7 and 8.

The conference is aimed at providing a platform for scientists, researchers,
scholars and academicians to discuss and exchange ideas on new research
findings, emerging technologies, trends, issues and challenges in the global
halal industry.

Portner and his partner, Olivier R. Funel, who is the company's president,
have been coming to Malaysia almost every month since September last year.

Their frequent visits were not only to discuss with Malaysian External Trade
Development Corporation (Matrade) officials on the plan to participate in MIHAS
2009 but also to look out for potential partners.

To show its commitment to help turn Malaysia into a global halal hub for
perfumes and cosmetics, Portner said a company, Alpha-Experts Sdn Bhd, was set
up in the country last year.

"We have met several local companies which are keen to team up with Atelier
to manufacture fragrances and cosmetics in Malaysia but we have to be very
selective in choosing our partners," he said.

Portner said that over the years, Atelier has been producing the perfume
bases for most of the major international brands.

Since taking over the management, he and Funel have decided to not only be
involved in the development of products for others but also to look for markets
to sell their creations.

For MIHAS 2009 which is scheduled to be opened by Prime Minister Najib
Razak, Portner said the company has created a perfume product specially for
Najib's wife, Rosmah Mansor.

Atelier, he said, also has a tailor-made concept for its perfume products,
whereby each individual can create their own brand name and choose the scent
they want.

The company is moving to the next phase of its development by distributing
quality bases with competitive pricing to perfume and cosmetics companies,
Portner said.

"This will enable us to launch products by offering the same quality as the
big brands but at a fraction of the price," he said.
