Inspiring Malaysia's Next Generation Of Female Engineers With New Challenge

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 8 (Bernama) -- A brand new bespoke engineering challenge with the Girl Guides Association Malaysia (Persatuan Pandu Puteri Malaysia), developed by a team of BAE Systems female engineers was recently launched. The challenge involving up to 280,000 young women completed a series of fun and engaging engineering tasks to earn the new 'Gear up' girl guiding badge. According to a statement, the badge launch followed the success of similar launches by BAE Systems and Girl Guides in the UK and Singapore. The 'Gear up' badge was launched at the annual girl guides conference in Kuala Lumpur on Oct 2 and will be rolled out across various regions in Malaysia over the coming months. Deputy President of the Girl Guiding organisation in Malaysia, Tunku Soraya Sultan Abdul Halim who was at the conference, said: "We are pleased to add the 'Gear up' badge to the Girl Guiding programme here, we know it will be a popular badge and are excited to see our members have fun completing the challenges, whilst also being inspired to take an interest in STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) subjects." BAE Systems Managing Director (Asia), Natasha Pheiffer expressed pride in having worked in partnership with Malaysia. Commending BAE Systems and the Girl Guides Association Malaysia on the initiative, British High Commissioner to Malaysia, Charles Hay said: "With a track record in academic and research excellence, the UK is also a STEM powerhouse and an advocate for girls' education.” BAE Systems is the largest international supplier to the Malaysian Armed Forces, having been a partner for more than 50 years. -- BERNAMA
