ANIFAH TO ATTEND NAM MEETING IN HAVANA
KUALA LUMPUR, April 28 (Bernama) -- Foreign Minister Anifah Aman will attend
a two-day ministerial meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) in Havana, Cuba
beginning Tuesday.
He will be accompanied by his wife, Siti Rubiah Abdul Samad, and senior
officials of the ministry, to the meeting.
A statement from Wisma Putra (Foreign Ministry) said the meeting was to
finalise preparations for the forthcoming 15th Summit of NAM in Sham El-Sheikh,
Egypt which is scheduled to be held from July 11-16, as well as to exchange
views on current issues and challenges facing developing countries.
According to the statement, the ministers were envisaged to adopt two
documents, namely the Final Document containing NAM's pronouncements on various
current issues and challenges, and the Declaration on Palestine containing
NAM's position on the Palestinian issue.
Anifah, who is scheduled to deliver his speech at the meeting on April
29, would speak on the role of NAM, current and future challenges confronting
the organisation, particularly on issues concerning political developments in
Middle East, disarmament and international security, as well as economic and
financial crisis.
He is also scheduled to have bilateral meetings with his counterparts on the
sidelines of the meeting.
The statement said the meeting would give Malaysia the opportunity to
reiterate its position on key international issues, as well as enhance its
role on matters affecting NAM member countries.
