Information Minister pays homage to UAE media icon

Manama, Oct.20 (BNA): Information Affairs Minister Ali bin Mohammed Al-Romaihi mourned the sad demise of Emirati journalism pioneer Ibrahim Al Abed, adviser to the Chairman of the UAE’s National Media Council (NMC), who passed away today, leaving behind a prolific legacy in serving his nation, contributing to the development of the press and media and enriching scientific research.
“The GCC and Arab press and media communities have lost an iconic pioneer of responsible media”, he said, praising his contributions which span almost five decades of devoted services in the UAE media industry.
He paid homage to the deceased, commending his pivotal role in developing the Emirati press, writing the annual book and other publications, in addition to his contribution to the establishment of the UAE News Agency (WAM) and his competence as NMC director-general before his appointment as advisor to the same panel.
The deceased was conferred the Media Personality of the Year, during the Arab Press Award distribution ceremony, which was held in 2014, in Dubai, in addition to other prizes.
The minister valued the deceased’s contributions to strengthening media cooperation between the two brotherly countries and supporting joint Arab Action. He prayed to Allah the Almighty to rest the soul of the deceased in eternal peace and give his family and colleagues solace and fortitude.
