MALAYSIAN KING MEETS URUGUAYAN PRESIDENT

MONTEVIDEO (Uruguay), April 28 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian King Tuanku Mizan
Zainal Abidin and his consort Tuanku Nur Zahirah on Monday had an audience with
Uruguayan President, Dr Tabare Vazquez Rosas, at the president's official
residence, here.
Their Majesties' motorcade arrived at the residence at 11.30am local time
and they were greeted by the president and his wife upon arrival.
The Royal couple spent about half an hour with the president before Tuanku
Mizan proceeded to the Legislative Palace to meet the Uruguayan General
Assembly president, Rodolfo Nin Nivoa.
Meanwhile, Tuanku Nur Zahirah left for another visit to the Malaysia School
in Pedro De Mendoza Av, about 40 km from here for a separate programme.
The royal couple is here on a five-day state visit, to reciprocate the state
visit to Malaysia by Dr Vazquez in November 2007.
At the Malaysia School in Uruguay, Tuanku Nur Zahirah was treated to some
special performances by the primary school's students in honour of her majesty's
visit.
Later in the evening their majesties visited the Montevideo City Hall, where
the royal couple was presented with the key to the city of Montevideo by its
Mayor-in-attendance, Hyara Rodriguez.
The Malaysian royal couple departed Tuesday from the Air Base 1 Carrasco
International Airport, ending their majesties' five-day state visit here.
Present at the airport to bid farewell to their majesties were the Uruguayan
ambassador to Malaysia Pablo Sader, and Uruguayan Sub-director of Protocol and
Ceremonies Alfredo Bogliaccini.
The special aircraft carrying the royal couple took off at 11.40pm local
time headed for Madinah, Saudi Arabia.
The royal couple have been here since last week to reciprocate the state
visit to Malaysia by Uruguayan President Dr Tabare Vazquez Rosas in November
2007.
It was also aimed at providing impetus for improving bilateral relations,
and symbolises the warm and close ties of friendship between the two countries.
