40 Million Register For Pre-Employment Programme In Indonesia
JAKARTA, Nov 3 (Bernama) -- Forty million people have registered for the pre-employment card programme specially to assist those who lost their jobs as a result of the economic impact of COVID-19.
Programme management executive director Denni Puspa Purbasari said the figure was based on the latest statistics as at October 2020.
In April, Indonesian President Joko Widodo announced an allocation of Rp20 trillion to provide training for those eligible for the online employment training programme.
“The participants involve those who register at 514 districts and cities throughout Indonesia. Nonetheless, only 5.59 million would be accepted for the programme at the moment,” he said via a webinar titled Roles of Pre-employment Card Programme Tuesday.
Through the programme, each participant would receive an incentive of Rp3.5 million in which Rp1 million (RM300) would be used as training cost and the remaining amount would be dispensed in stages over four months for basic and daily expenses.
Denni Puspa said those who register are aged 18 and above and are no longer studying and are seeking employment or have lost their jobs.
About 900 online training courses in various fields such as communication technology, accounting, food stall management, English and housekeeping as well as starting new business are available.
According to the Indonesian Ministry of Manpower, as at July, more than three million people have lost their jobs in the country due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the figure does not include those who are daily paid.
