BACA President participates in GCC Culture Ministers meeting

Manama, Nov. 15 (BNA): President of Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities (BACA) HE Shaikha Mai bint Mohammed Al Khalifa participated remotely today in the 24th meeting of the GCC Ministers of Culture which was held under the presidency of the UAE Minister of Culture and Knowledge Development HE Noora Al Ka’abi, with the participation of GCC Secretary General Dr. Nayef Falah Mubarak Al Hajraf. Omani Minister of Culture, Sport and Youth Sayed Dhi Yazan bin Haitham bin Tarik Al Said, Representative of the Saudi Minister of Culture Hamid Fayez, the Representative of Kuwait’s National Council for Culture, Arts and Literature and the Representative of Qatar’s Ministry of Culture also attended the meeting. In her opening speech, the UAE Minister of Culture and Knowledge Development extended deepest condolences to the Kingdom of Bahrain and HE Shaikha Mai bint Mohammed Al Khalifa on the passing of HRH Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa. The GCC Secretary General also expressed condolences to the Kuwaiti and Bahraini peoples on the demise of late Kuwaiti Amir HH Shaikh Sabah Al Ahmed Al Jaber Al Sabah and HRH Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa. HE Shaikha Mai bint Mohammed Al Khalifa pointed out in her speech that November 18 coincides with the International Day of Islamic Art which was endorsed by UNESCO in line with a proposal by the Kingdom of Bahrain. She noted that a more beautiful image of Islamic art can be promoted through synergized efforts of all relevant parties in the GCC member states in order the preserve the glorious heritage of the Islamic civilization. She stressed the need to promote Islamic art worldwide, hailing the Kingdom of Bahrain’s hosting and presidency of the 25th meeting of the GCC Ministers of Culture.
