US$77,334 WORTH OF DRUGS SEIZED FROM FOUR FOREIGNERS

KUALA LUMPUR, April 30 (Bernama) -- Police detained four foreigners and
seized 775 grams of drugs worth US$77,334 (RM278,000) after separate raids in
the city on Friday and Sunday.

Kuala Lumpur Narcotics Chief ACP Kang Chez Chiang said during the first raid
at a hotel in Jalan Ampang, police arrested two Iranians aged 24 and 25 at about
8pm and seized 595 grams of Syabu worth about US$59,529 (RM214,000).

He added that the duo had entered the country on March 31 as tourists from
Bangkok, Thailand.

"The drugs were brought in for distribution in the klang valley. They have
been in and out of the country six times and are believed to have been active
for the past three to four months. We are investigating their source of supply
and suspect they have local associates," he told reporters here Wednesday.

During the second raid on April 26, two men from Acheh, Indonesia, aged 31
and 39 were arrested near KLCC with five packets of Syabu weighing 180 grams.

Kang said all four are remanded for a week to facilitate investigations
under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
