Bahrain to observe International Volunteer Day

Manama, Dec.4 (BNA): The Kingdom of Bahrain will tomorrow (Dec.5) mark the International Volunteer Day (IVD), being held this year under the theme: ''Together We Can Through Volunteering''.
The UN General Assembly has designated the annual event on the 5th of December as an opportunity to promote volunteerism, encourage governments to support volunteer efforts and recognise volunteer contributions to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at local, national and international levels
In a statement on this occasion, Labour and Social Development Minister Jameel bin Mohammed Ali Humaidan commended Bahraini volunteers’ efforts to promote charity, serve the community and support official and non-governmental organizations and contribute to achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
He praised the volunteers’ efforts and pivotal role and contribution to Bahrain’s success in withstanding challenges and combating the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
“This year, the world is facing an unprecedented circumstance in contemporary life with the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19)”, he said, highlighting the precautionary measures, which were taken to confront the pandemic and limit its spread.
He commended the Feena_Khair campaign, which was launched by His Majesty the King’s Representative for Humanitarian Work and Youth Affairs His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al-Khalifa, adding that the drive generated more than BD21 million within less than 24 hours.
The minister paid tribute to volunteers, NGOs and civil society institutions, hailing their contributions and crucial role in combating COVID-19 pandemic.
