Manama, Dec. 9 (BNA): Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the Supreme Council for the Development of Education and Training His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Mubarak Al Khalifa received Education Minister Dr. Majid bin Ali Al Nuaimi who briefed him on the educational achievement accomplished by Bahrain in the 2019 Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS) exams.
A report issued Amsterdam-based International Association for the Evaluation of Educational Achievement (IEA) showed the performance of Bahraini students going up from the low-intermediate benchmark to the intermediate-high benchmark, according to international standards, thanks to the increase in the students’ scores in mathematics and science compared to the previous cycles.
The report that covered 64 countries said that Bahrain ranked first Arab country in the fourth and eighth grade science tests, as well as the mathematics tests for the eighth grade. The Kingdom also ranked second Arab country in the fourth grade’s mathematics, just one mark behind the first country.
HH Shaikh Mohammed expressed satisfaction with the achievement and congratulated the minister and the ministry’s personnel for their efforts to advance the educational process in Bahrain.
The progress is within the project being implemented to develop education and training under the guidance of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the follow-up of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, he added.
