NIHR reviews its role with EU delegation representative

Manama, Dec. 10 (BNA): Vice President of the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) Khalid Abdulaziz Al Shaer received First Secretary at the Delegation of the European Union in Riyadh accredited to Bahrain, Angelos Lenos. Al Shaer praised cooperation relations between Bahrain and EU countries, expressing his appreciation for the efforts made by the delegates to strengthen ties to develop human rights work and establish principles of respect for human rights. The vice president briefed him on NIHR’s work and its role within the National Human Rights Plan, its strategy and its work plans. He reviewed the institutions’ efforts during the pandemic to raise awareness among citizens and residents through the data and tweets, as well as the visits to isolation and quarantine centers to ensure applying precautionary measures for patients and those who came in contact with infected patients. Al Shaer noted that the institute paid visits to reform, rehabilitation and detention centers during the Ashura’a with the aim to ensure the allowance of practicing religious rituals, in accordance with international human rights standards. Lenos expressed his appreciation for NIHR’s efforts to promote and protect human rights in the Kingdom, praising Bahrain's efforts to promote peace in the region.
