Football: Al Sadd Wins the Amir Cup

Doha, December 19 (QNA) - Al Sadd won Friday the 2020 Amir Cup after defeating Al Arabi 2-1 in the final. The match was played at the Ahmed bin Ali stadium, the fourth stadium of the World Cup 2022, which was inaugurated Frday.
Al Sadd's Baghdad Bounedjah was the star of the show, scoring a brace in the 4th and 44th minute to give the title to Al Sadd. Al Arabi's only goal was sandwiched in between Bounedjah's brace, it was scored by Aron Einar Gunnarsson.
The win is the 17th Amir Cup title for Al Sadd, which is the record for all Qatari team. Al Sadd played the final 27 times. Meanwhile Al Arabi failed to win in its ninth final appearance. The club's last victory was in 1993 when the team defeated Al Sadd 3-0.
Al Sadd began the game strongly and got the opening goal in the 4th minute when Santi Cazorla's shot deflected off Bounedjahs foot and into the net.
In the 23rd minute, Al Arabi equalized through Gunnarsson. He took full advantage of Al Sadd's failure to clear their lines from a corner and put the ball home from close range.
Following the equalizer, Al Sadd pushed forward for the lead, and with a minute before the end of first half, they got it. After a great series of passes around the box, the ball fell to Guilherme whose shot was deflected in by Bounedjah, leaving the goalkeeper with no chance of saving it. (QNA)
