CONSULTATION, COOPERATION BETWEEN EMPLOYERS AND WORKERS VITAL, SAYS ABDULLAH

PORT DICKSON (Malaysia), May 2 (Bernama) -- Employers and workers should
always consult and cooperate with one another in overcoming problems, former
prime minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said Saturday.

"Each depends on the other and as such, all problems that arise from time to
time have to be resolved through consultation and cooperation. Hence, both
parties have to respect one another to achieve success," he said at the closing
of of the National Union of Bank Employees (NUBE) sports carnival in conjunction
with the Workers Day celebration in southern seaside town here Friday night.

Abdullah said workers were part of human capital which had to be developed
and that it was the strength of the human capital which would contribute to the
country's progress.

"Our country needs human capital to succeed. Therefore, we have to increase
the value of our workers for the sake of our progress and success together,' he
added.

He said in facing the current economic uncertainties, employers and workers
should share the burden and work to overcome challenges together.

"What is crucial is that harmonious relations should exist between employers
and workers," he added.
