Speaker praises parliamentary cooperation with UK

Manama, Feb. 1 (BNA): Speaker of the Representatives Council, Fawzia bint Abdullah Zainal, held a virtual meeting today with Speaker of the House of Commons of the United Kingdom, Sir Lindsay Hoyle, in the presence of Bahraini Ambassador to the UK, HE Shaikh Fawaz bin Mohammed Al Khalifa. The Representatives Council Speaker praised deep-rooted historical relations of friendship between both countries and strategic cooperation in various fields. She stressed keenness of the Kingdom of Bahrain to boost bilateral cooperation in light of the comprehensive development march led by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa. She also underlined the importance of parliamentary coordination to back the development efforts and promote security and stability. The Representatives Council Speaker also pointed out the significance of existing cooperation between the Representatives Council and a number of British centres which held many workshops to exchange expertise and project historical relations of friendship between both countries. For his part, Sir Lindsay Hoyle praised Bahrain’s achievements in various fields and in empowering women politically, stressing the need to continue bolstering communication between the two friendly countries regarding diverse issues, including combating terrorism, human rights, sustainable development and reviewing both countries’ experiences in mitigating the spread of coronavirus pandemic. Sir Lindsay Hoyle commended cooperation between both countries in fostering peace and security in the region and the whole world. He stressed the need to further enhance bilateral economic cooperation and trade exchange during the next period of time, especially after the UK’s exit from the European Union. The meeting also cast light on a number of issues of common concern and ways of further boosting relations between the two friendly countries.
