Bahrain’s human rights achievements highlighted by Assistant Foreign Minister

Manama, Feb. 2 (BNA): Assistant Foreign Minister Abdullah bin Faisal bin Jabur Al Doseri said that Bahrain has been keen, through its achievements and initiatives, on reinforcing the values of human rights, in line with the national identity and its long-standing national heritage based on respecting the values of justice, equality, tolerance and democracy. Human rights diplomacy is of great importance in the effective participation at the local and international levels, which affirmed the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of the Kingdom at all regional, Arab and international levels. Al Doseri pointed out the role of the kingdom’s diplomacy in maintaining and defending its strategic, political and economic interests abroad. He also asserted developing relations between the kingdom and all states and bodies and underlined strong and growing partnership between Bahrain and the United Nations and its agencies. Al Doseri was delivering a virtual lecture, “Human Rights System in the Kingdom of Bahrain and International Standards", part of a two-day event organised by the Legislation and Legal Opinion Commission with the aim of increasing awareness, building capacities, promoting legal culture and honing competencies in the legal field. The Assistant Foreign Minister reviewed Bahrain’s foreign policy and the vision of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, which has established a unique model based on the principles and values that stem from the Kingdom’s culture. Bahrain has been able, through its balanced diplomatic approach, flexible and decisive policies and alliances and partnerships throughout history to address the most serious challenges and overcome many crises to confirm its full commitment and unwavering respect for international laws, norms and covenants, he said. Al Doseri also discussed the concept of human rights, its significance, its national, regional and international dimensions, and its distinct characteristics. In this regard, he recalled Bahrain’s human rights achievements, including the submission of its national reports and its accession to the Human Rights Council for 2019 - 2021. He referred to the Isa Award for Service to Humanity, the establishment of the King Hamad Global Center for Peaceful Coexistence, the UNESCO King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa Prize for the use of ICT in Education, the International Day of Conscience, in addition to the King Hamad Youth Empowerment Award to Achieve the SDGs, the King Hamad Prize for Agricultural Development, the Award of Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa for Women Empowerment, the Nasser Bin Hamad Youth Creativity Award, as well as the Nasser Bin Hamad International Youth Creativity Award, and many others. The lecture was followed by around 630 people, including members of the diplomatic and judicial corps in Bahrain and the GCC countries as well as judges of the State Council in Egypt.
