Industry Ministry participates in National Environment Day

Manama, Feb. 4 (BNA): The Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism has participated in the National Environment Day which is observed on February 4 every year to boost social awareness of the need to take the necessary measures to protect the environment. Marking the occasion, the ministry Assistant Undersecretary for Local and Foreign Trade, Shaikh Hamad bin Salman Al Khalifa, emphasised the importance of national and international functions in raising people’s awareness of various environmental issues and the need to take appropriate measures to tackle them. He noted that the occasion is an opportunity to highlight the efforts of the Standards and Metrology Directorate in handling environmental issues in partnership with the competent authorities. Shaikh Hamad bin Salman Al Khalifa said the Standards and Metrology Directorate at the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism has carried out many awareness and supervisory environment-related programmes like control of plastic bag products, which the directorate has been implementing since 2019 in cooperation with the Supreme Council for Environment to legalize the import and manufacture of biodegradable plastic products to protect the ecosystem in Bahrain.
