Venezuela begins coronavirus vaccination with Russia’s Sputnik V

BUENOS AIRES, February 19. /TASS/. The coronavirus vaccination campaign has been launched in Venezuela Thursday, President Nicolas Maduro announced. "This Thursday, February 18, is a historic day because today we have launched the vaccination of all health workers with Sputnik V, the safest vaccine in the world," he said in his speech. According to the Venezuelan leader, doctor Glendy Rivero in Los Teques, Miranda, was the first in the country to receive the shot. The first Sputnik V batch arrived in Venezuela on February 13. In December 2020, Vice President of Venezuela Delcy Rogriguez announced that a contract was signed with the Russian side to supply jab doses. In October, the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) reported that Sputnik V doses had been delivered to Caracas to carry out stage three clinical trials which involved 2,000 volunteers, including Maduro’s son, Nicolas Maduro Guerra.
