AP Speaker condemns EU Parliament’s interference in Bahrain’s internal affairs

Manama, Mar.12 (BNA): Arab Parliament Speaker Adel Abdulrahman Al Asoomi strongly condemned the EU Parliament’s resolution regarding the situation of human rights in the Kingdom of Bahrain. The AP Speaker described the resolutions as a flagrant and unacceptable interference in Bahrain’s internal affairs, in breach of international laws and conventions and parliamentary norms. He questioned the EU Parliament’s self-proclaimed right to assess the situation of human rights in other non-European countries and societies, relying on suspicious sources which are hostile to Bahrain and and the security and stability of Arab countries to tarnish their image abroad. He said that such resolutions have no legal political values, adding that they unjustifiably defame Bahrain’s human rights achievements and guaranteed basic liberties which won international recognition. He urged the EU Parliament to heed common interests and strategic relations binding the European Union and the Arab countries which do not interfere in the affairs which concern Arab societies. In a statement today, the AP Speaker called upon the European Union to reconsider its stances and stop politicizing human rights.
