SC Participates in 'Qatar Beautification and our Kids Planting Trees' Campaign
Doha, March 18 (QNA) - The sustainability team of the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC), the body responsible for delivering the infrastructure required to host the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, participated in a tree planting campaign organized by the Public Works Authority's (Ashghal) Supervisory Committee of Beautification of Roads and Public Places in Qatar today. It is part of the 'Qatar Beautification and our Kids Planting Trees' campaign, which was launched by this committee in September 2019, in cooperation with the Ministry of Municipality and Environment, and aims to plant one million trees across the country by 2022.
A team from the SC's Generation Amazing Program, as well as a number of SC's ambassadors participated in the campaign that targeted the participation of children in planting trees on the Al Khor Coastal Road, with the aim of raising awareness among community members about sustainability, planting trees, in addition to preserving the environment.
In a statement on this occasion, Eng. Amna Al Badr, Secretary of the Supervisory Committee of Beautification of Roads and Public Places in Qatar, called on all groups of society to participate in the planting campaign, indicating that the committee had organized it in cooperation with the SC and with the participation of a number of school children.
Al Badr revealed that the Committee is coordinating with many authorities in the country in order to reach the planting of one million trees by 2022, during which the State of Qatar will host the FIFA World Cup.
Commenting on his participation, Mohamed Saadoun Al Kuwari, an SC's ambassador, affirmed that the impact of football is great in changing peoples' lives for the better, stressing the importance of the World Cup in making a shift in the history of different countries and spreading positive thought.
Talking to Qatar News Agency (QNA), Al Kuwari said Generation Amazing is an SC's program that focuses on many programs related to hosting the World Cup, including the program on sustainability supporting the environment and supporting a more sustainable life for peoples.
He added that cooperating with the Public Works Authority and inviting school students to participate in the planting campaign is necessary to promote the importance of sustainability.
Speaking to QNA, Tim Cahill, an SC's ambassador, expressed his happiness to participate in the campaign, which supports the efforts of sustainability and the preservation of the environment as one of the core values of the SC in hosting the 2022 World Cup, while describing his participation as very distinctive, especially since such events contribute greatly to Qatar hosting a sustainable edition of the World Cup, as well as leaving positive impacts throughout the country in terms of sustainability.
Cahill said planting trees and increasing green areas would greatly contribute to reducing carbon emissions and helping Qatar to host a carbon neutral and environmentally friendly edition.
For his part, Khalid Salman, an SC's ambassador, said that participating in the planting campaign with children presents a message for the next generation, to preserve the environment, especially as they are the nucleus of the future, and their participation will give them experience and responsibility for what is to come.
He expressed his happiness to participate in this campaign, which aims to raise awareness among community members about sustainability, planting trees, and preserving the environment, especially since sustainability is one of the basic criteria in Qatar's bid to host the World Cup.
As for Ibrahim Khalfan, an SC's ambassador, considered participating in such campaigns a social and national duty for everyone in society, expressing his pride in participating in this distinguished experiment that aims at environmental sustainability.
In 2018, the SC launched the Ambassadors Program, which cooperates with a number of the most prominent football stars to help implement and promote several legacy programs, and shed light on the infrastructure projects associated with hosting the 2022 World Cup. (QNA)
