Health Ministry’s Undersecretary: Inmates receive round-the-clock comprehensive medical care

Manama, Apr. 2 (BNA): In response to false allegations made by the Qatari Al Jazeera Channel, the Ministry of Health Undersecretary Dr Waleed Khalifa Al Manea asserted today that the inmates at the Reformation and Rehabilitation Centres of the Ministry of Interior receive round-the-clock comprehensive medical care by specialised medical teams of the Ministry of Health, in coordination with the Ministry of Interior. He highlighted that the precautionary measures to limit the spread of COVID-19 and medical protocols are fully implemented under Bahrain Medical Team's supervision. The Undersecretary said that the health conditions of COVID-19 active cases among inmates are stable, contrary to the channel's allegations. They are kept at one of the quarantine centres allocated for active cases located in different parts of the country and receive the required healthcare. He said that the health situation at all reformation and rehabilitation centres comply with medical criteria and are under the Health Ministry's supervision. On the other hand, regarding the channel's allegations, the reformation and rehabilitation centres work to enforce the law and meet human rights standards with complete transparency. They consider all human rights principles, and are open to all human rights organisations, including the National Institute of Human Rights, the Ombudsman and the Prisoners and Detainees Rights Commission. "We have not heard or seen such practices in Qatari prisons," he concluded.
