Qatari Al Jazeera Channel’s allegations condemned

Manama, Apr.20 (BNA): the Shura Council’s Foreign Affairs, Defence and National Security defended Bahrain human rights strides.
Chaired by Youssef bin Ahmed Al Ghatam, the panel strongly condemned the Qatari Al Jazeera Channel’s adamant attempts to defame the Kingdom of Bahrain through lies and misinformation.
It dismissed Al Jazeera’s reports about the conditions of inmates at the Reformation and Rehabilitation Centre lacking accuracy and objectivity, condemning the Qatari channel hostile line in tarnishing Bahrain and defaming its human rights record.
“The Qatari Al-Jazeera channel deliberately distorts the facts to serve political agendas, subvert national unity and community cohesion, which is a violation of media code of honour and basic values and principles in media work”, said the committee.
In a statement today, it highlighted Bahrain’s efforts to promote human rights, particularly the conditions of inmates and detainees at the Reformation and Rehabilitation Centre and detention facilities.
“The Directorate of Reformation and Rehabilitation allows human rights institutions and other concerned parties to visit these centres, get reassured inmates’ conditions and hear their remarks and ensure that the received required services”, it said.
It highlighted the establishments promoting human rights in Bahrain, citing the the National Institution of Human Rights (NIHR), the Ombudsman Office and the Bahrain Prisoners and Detainees Rights Commission (PDRC), which contribute to promoting inmates’ conditions.
“Al Jazeera’s repeated malicious malicious reports will not discourage Bahrain from continuing efforts to expand the implementation of the law on alternative measures, praising the role of the Interior Ministry, led by General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdulla Al-Khalifa to bolster Bahrain’s human rights strides and debunk Al Jazeera’s allegations which lack any media professionalism or credibility.
