RAP Commander participates in launch of handbook on gender-responsive police services for women and girls subject to violence

Manama, Apr. 26 (BNA): The Commander of the Royal Academy of Police (RAP), Brigadier Fawaz Al Hassan participated in an event held by the United Nations in cooperation with the United Nations Office on Drug and Crime to launch the handbook on gender-responsive police services for women and girls subject to violence.
The handbook was launched on the occasion of the activation of the United Nations Joint Global Programme on Essential Services for Women and Girls Subject to Violence.
The handbook aims to strengthen the justice sector response, particularly that of law enforcement that has consistently been cited as one of the most challenging issues when responding to violence against women and girls.
A positive initial contact experience with police is crucial for survivors of violence and a high-quality police and justice response must be available and accessible to all women and girls who are navigating an often complex justice system, especially those who are most marginalized and are at greater risk of experiencing violence.
Brigadier Fawaz highlighted that the Interior Ministry has detected the need for a different approach to deal with marital problems and adopted innovative methods to address those cases by the allocation of special offices for families and children.
Those offices aim to ensure the wellbeing of victims and provide them with appropriate and safe investigation environments.
He assured that the handbook would reinforce the policies and operations of those offices.
