Parliamentary committee refutes EP allegations, says Reformation and Rehabilitation Centre is COVID-19-free

Manama, Apr. 29 (BNA): The Foreign Affairs, Defence and National Security Committee at the Council of Representatives has strongly rejected the inaccurate claims made the members of the European Parliament (EP) about the spread of active Coronavirus cases at the Reformation and Rehabilitation Centre, dismissing the allegations as untrue and baseless.
The committee affirmed that the Interior Ministry has, for more than one year, put in place all the precautionary measures and provided the necessary health care at the centre, in accordance with the international standards, noting that the measures have proved effective, and that now there is no active coronavirus case at the centre.
The committee indicated that it had made a field visit to the centre to collect first-hand information and verify the commitment to the precautionary and preventive measures, noting that it had found that the measures in place were in full conformity with the standards recommended by the Bahrain National Medical Taskforce for Combating Coronavirus while dealing with any emerging cases.
The committee urged EP members to contact their Representatives Council’s counterparts, and renewed its call to them to hold a joint meeting to discuss all matters aimed at enhancing cooperation for the best interests of both sides, in accordance with the parliamentary norms.
It also stressed the need for them to obtain information from official and parliamentary sources, represented by the Council of Representatives whose members were elected through free and constitutional national will, urging them to avoid misleading information provided by suspicious parties that have been spreading rumours and incorrect news.
