HOUSE CONDUCTS FIT-AND-PROPER TESTS FOR BI SENIOR DEPUTY GOVERNOR



Jakarta, May 11 (ANTARA) - House Commission XI for banking and financial affairs has begun conducting a fit-and-proper test on Darmin Nasution and Gunarni Soeworo who have been nominated by the the government for the post of Bank Indonesia (BI) senior deputy governor.

Darmin Nasution, who is currently director general for taxation affairs, was the first one who attended the fit-and-proper test on Monday by Commission XI of the House of Representatives.

Lawmakers of Commission XI began the fit-and-proper test session led by Commission XI chairman Hafiz Zawawi at 10.30 am with Nasution. The session continued with Guarni Soeworo.

Dradjad H Wibowo, member of Commission XI, said each of the candidates was given two hours to provide his vision and mission.

He said that the results of the test could be made on the same day.

"Discussions on the decision could last until night," he added.

He said that the commission hoped there would be a decision the same day, but until noon it was not yet certain whether there would be a final decision.

On the other hand, Commission XI chairman Hafiz Zawawi said the decision could be taken tonight or tomorrow.

"It can be tonight or tomorrow," he said.

The fit-and-proper test is conducted on candidates who are expected to replace BI Senior Deputy Governor Miranda S Goeltom who is to retire next June.
