Japanese Prince Akishino, Princess Kiko meet with Austrian president+

VIENNA, May 11 Kyodo -
Japanese Prince Akishino and his wife, Princess Kiko, held talks with Austrian
President Heinz Fischer on Monday during the first leg of their visit to four
European countries that lie on the Danube River.
The Japanese imperial couple arrived in Vienna on Sunday and will visit
cultural sites in Austria including the former home of composer Joseph Haydn
(1732-1809) in the city of Eisenstadt, west of Vienna, during their stay in the
country through Wednesday.
On a trip to commemorate Japan-Danube friendship year, the couple will then
travel to Bulgaria, Hungary and Romania before returning home on May 23.
2009 marks the 140th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations
between Japan and Austria as well as Japan and Hungary, and 50 years since
Japan resumed diplomatic ties with Bulgaria and Romania.
